Empowering women through sewing
February 13, 2023
In November 2022, there was much excitement in the women's Light of Hope Home in Johannesburg. The ladies attended their first sewing class – the first of many – and were taught how to thread a sewing machine and sew a hem under the expert guidance of Stella Horn. Stella has a wealth of experience in the clothing industry and through her knowledge and patience, our ladies have acquired many new sewing skills. In fact, now, in February, the ladies have embarked on an extensive project: to make and alter curtains, bedding and other items needed for the children's Light of Hope Home. We know that the ladies are not only learning the practical skill of sewing but are also feeling empowered and encouraged to go on to use these skills in their own homes or businesses once completing their rehabilitation programme.

We would like to thank those who generously donated the sewing machines and an overlocker for use in these classes.
