One can’t help but feel inspired when meeting Christian, a young man who lives in the Light of Hope Home for men. Christian is visually impaired – he lost his sight suddenly in August 2006 when he was just a grade 7 schoolboy. Christian had always believed in God but after losing his sight, he knew that he needed to give his life to Jesus.
After finishing his schooling, as an only child with no immediate family, Christian decided to leave Zimbabwe to make his life better. When asked how he managed to cross the border as a blind man on his own, he just smiled and replied, “I walk with God, why must I fear?” His faith and belief in God’s providence lead Christian to a South African refugee camp. There he met a young man who suggested he go to the Life of Hope Home for men, a place where he’d be safe and within a Christian community.
It took several months before Christian found himself at the Life of Hope Home and today, he marvels at how blessed his life has been ever since. One of his blessings is his talent and love of music. Christian has always loved music and playing the piano has long been one of his dreams. For two months, he fasted and prayed for the providence to have a piano. He believed that in God’s time, this would happen.
Then, earlier this year, through the Alpha Omega Foundation, a piano was bought for Christian. Since then, Christian has been practising and teaching himself to play – all by ear. He uses his talent at prayer meetings and to encourage the young children at the Light of Hope Children’s Home to come closer to God through song.
When asked what’s next, Christian says that he knows God has plans for him – he will take his music wherever God needs him to be.
